APR/MAY 2016 Editor’s Note by Jen Theisen

Good intentions of using this Lenten season to slow down and reflect seem to have flown out the window. It seems fair to say, we women take on much worry over our seemingly endless roles and responsibilities. As wives, Jenmoms, business owners, career women, friends, therapists, taxi drivers, accountants, and cooks (and the list goes on), it’s all too easy to find ourselves overwhelmed. The good news is we are a supportive community of women and this issue we celebrate that
community along with the men in our lives.
As I write this editor’s note, my mind floods with concerns. A child just called requesting a lunch delivery while thoughts of next week’s interview and near-impossible deadlines taunt me. I’m stewing about my oldest son’s safe return from
hitting the slopes in Montana. Will Henry bounce back from knee surgery okay? Will August adjust to a new basketball team, and why did he have such an outburst this morning? Is Quinn getting too much screen time? Am I getting too much screen time? How am I going to get my intense training run in since the downpour this morning put an end to that plan? Why did the dog get so sick last night? How can I be more productive? Maybe Jon is right … do I watch too much “trash TV”? When will Jon and I get some quality time? I miss my girlfriends. How am I going to get all this done? Oh. And dinner. What in the world am I going to make for dinner?
The reminder of the gift of community and of the incredible men and women in my life pauses my mind-racing uncertainties. I’m in awe of the way they help me refocus on what really matters. Recently, I have been encouraged
and so grateful for my strong and spirited daughter. She has demonstrated to me and to her very own community of women what it looks like to stand courageous against what is not right and to hold fast to what is honorable and good. It is in these tough life moments we are gifted with the realization all the sweat and tears have been worth it. Ladies, these young women we are raising watch our every move.
Let’s get it right in our own community of women and set good examples. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: to the band of women who come alongside in faithful support, I love you more than you know and your encouragement is priceless.
I am so proud to be a part of the Chippewa Valley. I am thrilled to see all the community activities and all we are doing to make our neighborhoods closer and stronger. Whether starting or maintaining a business, raising families, organizing volunteer efforts, teaching, dedicating self to charity—I see a brave community of women.
Please enjoy this issue and celebrate with us! Let’s lift up and not tear down; let’s celebrate each other’s successes; let’s support one another in disappointment; let’s shine a light in the dark times; and let’s have zero tolerance for unfair criticism and pettiness. We’re in this together, gals! Let’s celebrate this awesome community. The journey continues: faith, family, friends, fitness, and finance.
